Gravity Flow Wetland in Clay County 7-16-2026

After years of dealing with a wet spot in a field that never dried up, Carl Simons decided to turn the area into a wetland. Today, the 7.6-acre gravity-flow wetland on his Clay County farm, paired with a 39.5 acre conservation easement, is helping improve water quality. Funded through IDALS's Water Quality Initiative, the wetland captures water from subsurface drainage tile, slowing its flow and naturally filtering sediment and nutrients before the water continues downstream. Project partners include the Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District, Clay County Supervisors, and Bolton & Menk.
