Options for P placement include broadcast incorporated, or applying with seed or knifed bands, without incorporation.
Benefits
Long-term Iowa research shows applying similar rates of broadcast or planter-band P results in similar STP levels. Yet subsurface banding of P or incorporation of surface-applied P fertilizer or manure on sloping ground reduces P loss significantly, compared with surface application when runoff-producing precipitation occurs within a few days or weeks of application.
