2023 - Lauridsen Skatepark Parking Lot - Des Moines
Grant award: $103,500 - WQI
Total project: $2,652,750
Applicant/Partner Contributions: : $2,550,000
Description
A new parking lot with permeable pavers has been built along the Des Moines River to serve the users of the Des Moines Riverwalk, the Riverwalk Dog Park, and Lauridsen Skatepark. This lot provides parking access to these areas, while infiltrating stormwater instead of discharging straight to the Des Moines River. The lot also includes a bioretention cell on its northeast side where stormwater is intercepted and infiltrated through amended soil and subsurface aggregate. Before it reaches the Des Moines River. This project is an excellent example of how stormwater management can be an amenity to the community. The project was made possible through strong local, county and state partnerships.
The project was completed in October 2024.
