Description
The City of Clive retrofitted a dry detention basin by incorporating a bioretention cell within the dry detention basin and upgrading the vegetation to native plants. This treated urban runoff then flows into the Little Walnut Creek watershed and the Des Moines River. Soil quality restoration has also been applied to local green spaces for better soil. This project aligns with Clive’s broader goal to improve water quality and demonstrate responsible environmental stewardship. Overall, the improvements have positively impacted water quality, infiltration, soil health, and phytoremediation and nutrient uptake.
The project is currently in construction (July 2026).
