Description
To increase water quality improvements, the City of Des Moines has added to an existing subsidy program offering homeowners 50% cost share for installation of best management practices. These targeted neighborhoods where more water holding capacity was needed were provided 100% cost share for residents.

With additional funding, the City of Des Moines was able to offer cost sharing for soil quality restoration for 412 homeowners, improving stormwater infiltration for 1.6 million square feet or more than 38 acres. The outcome increased resiliency in areas where redevelopment of modern stormwater management standards is not likely.

The project was completed in January 2026.
